Ok, so we have a variety of amazing places to get tacos in Austin, Texas. I am a complete breakfast taco person. We pretty much have breakfast tacos every single day, usually homemade.

But it is really tempting to just go out and grab tacos, because they are usually around $2.50 or so, and we have so many great places. I mean, they are making the tortillas and salsa right there. The level of detail and quality is really just amazing here in Austin. I significantly prefer small family owned taco trucks to big chains like Torchy’s and Tacodeli, however, they have their place, and I have to admit, although their tacos are closer to $4 or $5 (which is kind of absurd), they really do have some awesome tacos. Like this fried avocado taco from Torchys. It is these breaded, fried slices of avocado, and they are so good.

I recently got a breakfast burrito in a Whole Foods in Denver, and there was NO SALSA. Like they actually explained to me that the don’t have salsa. And I couldn’t believe it. It took me some time to process this. But I guess they have the mountains and all. However, if I had to choose between salsa and mountains, it would be a difficult choice.

The migas taco at Torchy’s is also pretty good. But it really doesn’t compare to the mashed potato and egg taco at Tacodeli. My friend and awesome hair salon owner Heather (https://www.thewildhareatx.com) is not a fan of the mashed potatoes, but I love them. I am going to create a separate post about mom and pop taco places soon. If anyone has any taco recommendations, I would love to hear them!
