Golden Ratio

One way to think about the golden ratio is to take a line segment and divide it into two pieces, x and y. Suppose x is smaller than y. If the ratio of y to x is the same as the ratio of x+y (the whole segment) to y (the longer piece), then the ratio y/x equals the golden ratio, which is approximately 1.618. Pretty cool right?

My dad is visiting Egypt tomorrow, and will be staying near the Pyramid of Giza. Well, it turns out that many people who study pyramids believe that this pyramid satisfies the golden ratio in the following way (excuse my imperfect right angle drawing):

Pretty neat! Do you enjoy reading about interesting mathematics?
