Pt. Rupak Kulkarni and Pt. Hindole Majumdar (Austin, Texas)
This week we had the pleasure of having eminent artists Pandit Rupak Kulkarni (bansuri) accompanied by Pandit Hindole Majumdar (tabla) in Austin, Texas. They performed a truly mesmerizing concert, organized by Kala Darpan and Antara School of Indian Classical Music. It was held at the Wells Branch Community Church.
I feel the bansuri, when played by such an elegant, masterful artist, is an ethereal instrument, very close to the human voice. It has a beautiful deep, rich tone, and draws you in to the intricacies of the melody. It evokes both a divine, meditative state and a lighthearted playful atmosphere within the same melody. The masterful tabla accompaniment by Pandit Hindole Majumdar as well as the rapport between the artists both enhanced and grounded the performance.
If you are in Indiana, don’t miss their concert in South Bend on Sunday!
